"The blessings of a free government can only be maintained by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality and virtue, and by frequent recurrence to fundamental principles."

Secession, Secession, Secession, Secession, Secession, Secession, Secession, Secession! Wisconsin, Wisconsin!
"When all government, in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the Center of all power, it will render powerless the checks provided of one government on another and will become as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated."    - Thomas Jefferson
All empires end. At least all empires have ended, save the current example of the United States. The Roman, Egyptian, Greek, Turk, Chinese, French, German, British and Soviet empires have all come and gone. Is there any reason to suspect that we will follow a different course? Kirkpatrick Sale has described four different reasons why empires typically fall.

1. Military Overstretch
2. Economic Meltdown
3. Environmental Degradation
4. Civil Unrest

Most people never consider the fact that America is an empire...is this the case? Consider these facts as we look at how America is faring with regard to these four critical areas. We will also examine how Wisconsin citizens could take charge of their own governance and enact policy to preserve freedom and prosperity for future generations.
Part One: Introduction

The following commentary discusses the military, economic, environmental and social policies that are being pursued at the expense of the American people and the principles of a free society. These policies are undermining the sustainability of our government, planet, and way of life. Many Americans feel politically apathetic as their voice seems to make no difference. Even in the unprecedented election of 2008 only slightly more than half of eligible voters came to the polls. Many have concluded that there is nothing they can do and have accepted a government that is inaccessible and unaccountable.

Thankfully we come from a rich heritage of independent and resourceful generations who have left us with tools to change our current circumstances. Our political options are based on the fundamental principles of our society as outlined in our founding documents. We believe that:

-All people are created equal
-Government is to protect rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
-Government derives its power from the consent of the people.
-The people have the power to unmake and re-form government if they feel it is in their best interest.
