"The blessings of a free government can only be maintained by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality and virtue, and by frequent recurrence to fundamental principles."
-Article 1 Section 22, Wisconsin Constitution.
The American military dominates the planet. According to the Defense Department's public document "2007 Base Structure Report" The U.S. is operating 823 military bases on foreign soil in 39 different countries. We have a formal military presence in 153 out of 197 countries in the world.
This is only part of the story. Many areas, such as Iraq and Afghanistan, are not included in the report even though there are many bases in these countries. The Washington Post reports that there were 106 active bases in Iraq in 2005. There are many more in Afghanistan and an unknown number of "black" sites that are not publicly reported.
Who even knows the true number of foreign bases? It is likely well over 1,000. This is in addition to the 4,488 bases on U.S. Territory. Dont forget to also add in our floating bases, carrier strike forces and the like, that are covering all seven seas.

This video is taken from President Eisenhower's farewell address to the nation in 1961. He warns the nation back then, that without vigilence, the military industry would come to dominate our government and way of life. You can view the text of the speech here and listen to the full 16 minute audio of this remarkable address here.
An independent Wisconsin republic would only station its military in Wisconsin. There would be no bloated military budget weighing down the economy. The risk of terrorism would be greatly reduced as we would not invade and occupy other nations and foment hatred against ourselves. We would be leaders in peace and stability, respected throughout the world for our integrity and ingenuity.
Secession, Secession, Secession, Secession, Secession, Secession, Secession, Secession! Wisconsin, Wisconsin!
The science of war leads one to dictatorship pure and simple. The science of non-violence alone can lead on to pure democracy.

The Case for Wisconsin Sovereignty:
United States military operations have toppled democratically elected governments and installed military dictatorships. Conservative estimates of the deaths caused by the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan are nearly beyond comprehension. The John's Hopkins School of Public Health and MIT published an extensive study in The Lancet entitled "The Human Cost of the Iraq War: A Mortality Study." Their findings show that between 2003 and 2006 there were over 600,000 excess Iraqi deaths due to the war. This doesn't include the hundreds of thousands killed by pre-war sanctions. The body count continues to rise as the war has raged on for another four years. American forces are now known as the torturers of the 21st century and are in violation of the Geneva Convention.
The U.S. military budget is approximately the same as that of every other country on earth put together. Our "anti-war" president has increased the budget by at least 4% over Bush levels as he works to expand the war in Afghanistan and move into Pakistan. The financial implications of empire were overwhelming for the Soviet Union. They were bogged down in an expensive nine year war in Afghanistan from 1979-1989 in addition to the rest of their expansive cold-war empire. Their military overstretch and unsustainable centrally-planned economy finally collapsed in 1991.
The financial cost of maintaining this empire is astronomical and has now surpassed $1 Trillion annually.
Wisconsin is well equipped to take care of itself. However, our defense would be much stronger and more sustainable if our military was not spread out all over the planet. Even our Wisconsin National Guard troops are stationed in Middle-Eastern countries by the thousands. Wisconsin troops should be defending Wisconsin.
There has been a lot of talk about the $3.6 billion budget deficit. But this is minor compared to the $18.5 billion for Wisconsin's share of the wars. This is a major cause of our economic troubles. Click the image for more detail.
