"The blessings of a free government can only be maintained by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality and virtue, and by frequent recurrence to fundamental principles."

-Article 1 Section 22, Wisconsin Constitution.
Part Five: Civil Unrest
After being elected through the democratic process in 1933, Hitler burned his own Reichstag and used the attack to push through the Enabling Act which suspended civil liberties and lead to the horrors of what we know as Nazi Germany. An eerily similar sequence of events has transpired in the United States. There is significant evidence that the 9/11 attacks did not take place the way the government claims. In the most mild case the attacks were used to justify the legal dismemberment of the bill of rights and to launch wars. Whomever is responsible for the attacks not withstanding, the result has been the passage of the PATRIOT Act, The Military Commissions act, The John Warner Defense Authorization Act and the nebulous edicts of George Bush such as NSPD-51. Read through the Bill of Rights and see how our fundamental freedoms are undermined by these legislations. The freedom of speech, the right to peacefully assemble and the right to keep and bear arms are withering. Our phone and email are monitored. Active duty military units are being deployed in the US. Gone are protections against unreasonable searches and seizures. US citizens can now be arrested, charged as being domestic terrorists, detained indefinitely and prosecuted under the Patriot Act without access to legal council or trial. The broad powers of Homeland Security are now being turned on the American people by targeting third party political groups, citizens who stand up for their civil rights, and alternative media sources working to bring the truth to the people.

Do you live in the constitution free zone? Unfortunately the ACLU map only tells the beginning of the story. The whole nation is being turned into a constitution free zone. If someone is not paying attention, it may seem that life is going on as usual. But the slow destruction of our civil liberties is not business as usual. What happens on the day they are all gone? If one believes that the current administration or current government is not corrupt, they would still have to agree that the foundation is being laid for a nation that could be without the civil protections we have enjoyed as Americans. Imagine if leaders come to power in this system who do not have the country's best interest in mind. What if they already have? The nation has made the trade that Franklin warned us so earnestly against.
“Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.”
                                            -Benjamin Franklin
The first and foremost priority of an independent Wisconsin republic would be the protection of its citizens liberty. There would be no PATRIOT Acts. No warrentless searches. No roving checkpoints. The military would not perform police duties. Citizens could freely assemble and voice their opinions without being corralled into free speech zones or infiltrated by government agents. We would return to the rule of law and uphold our bill of rights so that our children can enjoy the freedoms that we have had.

The Case for Wisconsin Sovereignty:
Each of the aforementioned three issues has the potential to cause civil unrest in its own right. Unfortunately they are taking place together in the context of a country with growing discontent. The government, far from being a servant of the people, continually pushes the envelope with draconian legislation that attempts to nullify our civil rights and lead the country down an insidious slide into despotism.
None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.
